We can see why the Lord of the Rings movies, The Piano, et al were shot here in New Zealand. The scenes are absolutely astounding! If we could only remember the names of all the villages and towns we have been to...
Our trip began i Auckland where we picked up our campervan, i.e. our home for the next 38 days. We have been up north, to Bay of Islands, etc and are now in Rotorua, making our way down past Lake Taupo, Tongarira Crossing, and finally Wellington.
Last night was Ewelina's birthday so we went to the Mitai Maori village for some traditional singing, dancing, and last but not least eating! The smoked food, called Hangi, was very nice. The night ended with a 'noctournal tour' where we checked out the national bird: the Kiwi.
Tomorrow we are going whitewater rafting on the Waitomo river (grade 4-5) and if we survive we will hit Taupo in the evening. That is all for now. Full speed ahead.
